Wonder Studio offers 50 minutes of AI Mocap to users

What is Wonder Studio?

Wonder Studio is an AI tool that automatically animates, lights and composites digital characters into live action footage. Or at least that's how it's marketed...

See, if you take out the lighting and compositing, what you're left with is a tool that can take live-action footage and extract animation data. Body movements, Facial movements, even the camera data, it's all in there, and you can get that from something you shot on your smartphone.

Which means if you have any experience working with 3D animation data, you can save yourself a ton of time. And Wonder Studio is aware of this, which is why they recently updated their service, allowing up to 3000 seconds (AKA 50 minutes) of Mocap data processing to subscribers in their Pro plan and 720 seconds (12 minutes) to those in their Lite plan.

Is Wonder Studio good?

I found myself using this for pre-viz, i've used it on animation projects that had short turnarounds, I could see this being an easy way to make content on the go, when you're away from your equipment. There's a lot you can do with this.

I should also note that it's still a video-based mocap solution, which means that even under the best conditions, the mocap is going to be a little bit janky. If you don't have a lot of experience working with 3D animation data I would steer clear of this as the cleanup can be quite extensive.

Otherwise, I'd say it's a pretty good solution for artists trying to speed up their workflow or content creators who want to do some quick VFX.
